1. What does CELTA stand for?

Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. 

2. Who recognises the CELTA certificate?

The CELTA Certificate is administered by Cambridge English. The qualification is globally renowned and is accepted by public & ELT private organisations worldwide.

3. Where can I work with the CELTA certificate?

Institutions around the world recognise the CELTA as one of the foremost and most respected qualifications in English language teaching. In many cases, it is a compulsory qualification for job applicants, as employers are aware of the course content and know what to expect when hiring a CELTA graduate.

4. What is the difference between the certificate course (CELTA) and the diploma course (DELTA)?

They are Cambridge teaching qualifications.

CELTA
  • For recent graduates / people who are changing career
  • For teachers who want to gain a formal qualification in teaching adults                
  • An initial English language teaching qualification
DELTA
  • For teachers with at least one year's experience of teaching English
  • For teachers in any context, working with any age range - Young Learners / Adults
  • An advanced blend of theory and practise of teaching qualification


5. If English is not my first language, am I still qualified to do the course?

Yes, you are. The course requires you to have a strong enough command of English to be able to successfully submit written coursework and teaching method essentials according to the standards of the University of Cambridge. Non-native speakers need to have an English level that is equivalent to a high C1 (Advanced) level. This is approximately equivalent to an IELTS score of 7.0 or above.

6. Is teaching experience a requirement to join the CELTA course? 

No prior teaching experience is required to sign up for the CELTA course.

7. What measures are taken to ensure the quality of the course? 

CELTA is a uniformly-designed course with the content and assessment standards set by Cambridge English. The importance of high-quality training & education is guaranteed and is ensured through various methods:

  • Every year, CELTA Assessment Centres are subject to approval by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
  • Cambridge ESOL appoints an external assessor for every course.
  • A Joint Chief Assessor is chosen to ensure quality standard maintenance at each center.
  • Annual meetings between assessment centres, trainers and Joint Chief Assessors, where course quality and student feedback are shared and discussed.

8. Does ACE CELTA provide support for employment after the completion of the course? 

We can't guarantee you a job, but we put you in direct contact with our HR department and the application process at our ACE campuses in Cambodia. You can also use the trainers on the course as referees, and we will provide written reference letters for any job applications.

9. Do I need a computer? 

Although it is not mandatory to use a computer, the course contains a lot of note-taking and written assignments; accordingly, if you’d prefer to use your laptop, feel free to bring it.

10. Who teaches the CELTA course?

The CELTA tutors are professional qualified teacher trainers and teachers, accredited and appointed by the University of Cambridge. All instructors have the CELTA Trainer qualification, as well as many years of teaching and training experience.

11. Will there be a final assessment?

No, there is no final assessment. The continuous assessment and examination during the course will determine your eligibility to pass.

12. Does ACE CELTA provide accommodation for students? 

No, we do not provide any accommodation for trainees. However, we can provide you with information regarding accommodation in Siem Reap/ Phnom Penh, and we will provide assistance if needed.
